Offered here is an original painting by Harrison Fisher. "Speak!" was produced as the study for the cover of the April 1913 Ladies' Home Journal magazine cover. You will see on close inspection that there are subtle elements that were modified for the final cover not included in the sale (see pic) which has been broadly reproduced. Condition is excellent, with minor wrinkling at the edges. My paper conservator (Ingrid Rose of Chevy Chase) recommends against altering the paper at all. The work is unsigned, however, it was purchased from an estate with other original Fisher works (see attached correspondence for example) not included with this sale. The painting is nicely framed and matted. Additionally, it should be noted that this was painted on Whatman 100% cotton weave paper and is so watermarked. The year marking ('1912') and 'England' are present as well as a partial Whatman mark ('N'). The watermark puts the piece ahead of the publication of the image in the mainstream press and thereby authenticates the work as a Fisher original painting rather than a subsequent copy.
Dimensions: 16.5" x 20.5" framed.
